Wisconsin's Republican Governor Scott Walker, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, recently said that his Christian faith and his relationship with God drive the major decisions he makes in life.

Walker is the 45th governor of Wisconsin and the son of Baptist preacher Llewellyn Scott Walker, who has set up churches in Colorado, Wisconsin and Iowa.

"My relationship with God drives every major decision in my life," the politician told the New York Times in a recent statement, adding that although it does not dictate his daily decisions, "our walk of faith helps us prepare for those decisions and provides us comfort as we seek to do God's will."

Along with his deep Christian faith, Walker has also made his beliefs on a variety of other hot-button topics known, including the topic of a federal law allowing same-sex marriage.

Walker said in a recent speech at the evangelical Point of Grace Church in Waukee, Iowa that he believes states should be able to individually decide whether to allow same-sex marriage or not.

"I think the appropriate route is for people across America who care deeply about this issue to pursue a constitutional amendment allowing the states to determine what the definition is," Walker told reporters following the recent speech.

Timothy Head, executive director of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, recently told the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel that Walker has successfully earned the attention of evangelical Christian voters in the U.S.

"He is definitely galvanizing our membership," Head told the media outlet ahead of the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition 2015 Spring Kickoff, which was held in April.
