Winds of Winter release date news update: Upcoming book will be 'GoT' Season 7 source material? Book expected soon

The renowned author George R. R. Martin has been teasing the fans recently with the excerpts from his unpublished novel, "The Winds of Winter," which is the sixth entry of the widely popular book series, "A Song of Ice and Fire." If the latest rumors are correct, it is expected that Martin will be able to release the novel just in time before "Game of Thrones" returns next year for its seventh season. HBO's hit fantasy adventure TV series is hugely based on Martin's original writings.

It has been reported that "The Winds of Winter" is possible to be released before "Game of Thrones" Season 7 premieres early 2017. Martin was supposed to release the book before the Season 6 premiere of the series last April, but due to some issues, the author failed to meet the initial target schedule.

There are concerns from the fans that Season 6 might need to spoil events from the unpublished novel. After all, "The Winds of Winter" is seen as the source material for Season 6 as most events from 2011's "A Dance With Dragons" has already been shown in Season 5. However, Martin and "GoT" production team gave the fans an assurance that there will be no huge book spoilers in the TV version.

Another reason to believe that there will be a huge difference between "The Winds of Winter" and "Game of Thrones" Season 6 is the new characters from the unpublished novel.

From the sample chapters from "The Winds of Winter" posted by Martin on his personal website, a new character named Princess Arianne, daughter of Prince Doran Martell, was introduced. This character has not yet been introduced in "Game of Thrones," which can be noted as one of the major differences between the novel and the TV adaptation.

Likewise, the character of Aeron Greyjoy was also revealed by Martin during the Balticon Convention, Yibada reported. Moreover, he described the new character as sadistic and is comparable to the villainous Ramsay Bolton.

With the new characters about to make their debut in the book series, they are also expected to make an appearance in the TV version via the seventh season of "Game of Thrones." With the current developments in "The Winds of Winter," it can be expected that the book might be released sometime this year, possibly towards the end of 2016.
