Winds of Winter Release Date Latest News: George R. R. Martin New Book Could Arrive June 2015
After a long, long wait, fans may finally get to read the highly anticipated novel "The Winds of Winter" by George R. R. Martin by the middle of next year. The upcoming book is the sixth in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series from which the hit TV series "Game of Thrones" is based.

Fans and readers of the series know that Martin writes slowly and frequently deviates from writing and indulges in other projects.
He recently finished working on the "The World of Ice & Fire" which he co-wrote with Elio M. Garcia Jr. and Linda Antonsson. The book is a fictional history book that provides more details about the kings, queens and dragons in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.
If Martin finishes "The Winds of Winter" by June next year, it will mark the end of the fifth season of "Game of Thrones."
Martin had previously stated that he is trying to keep ahead of the TV show, but it seems the sixth season of "Game of Thrones" may not be based on Martin's final book in the series.
Knowing that the show would overtake the books, the show runners recently met with Martin and collected information on all the major characters and their plotlines until the book series ends. As a result, they were able to get enough material for Seasons 6 and 7 of the show and do not have to rely on Martin to complete the book series.
Martin meanwhile has been dealing with fan ire on the delayed completion of "The Winds of Winter." The author noted that actually there is no deadline for the release of the book. He also shot down rumors that he has already finished writing the book but is deliberately withholding its release.
As for the readers of the book series, they have grown accustomed to waiting several years before the next book is published. They can only hope and pray that Martin lives long enough to be able to finish all the work he has started.
