Windows 10 news: Anniversary update to have new features, Cortana to get an upgrade?

Huge update is in store for Microsoft's latest operating system Windows 10, which will have its anniversary this summer.
Microsoft has yet to announce an official rundown of the new features expected to come this July, but rumor has it that the company's website might give a clue. Meanwhile, one of the reported enhancements for the anniversary update will include Cortana. For the uninitiated, Cortana is Microsoft's answer to Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa. According to CNET, the update will enable access to Cortana in apps like Skype and even while the screen is locked. The said features are in addition to the assistant's capability of giving instant weather updates, news headlines and traffic news. Cortana can also be used to send an e-mail, check schedule or simply set an alarm.
Additionally, the new update will provide better security for users. In a report by CBS news, a multifactor authentication feature will be available for websites and apps. Microsoft Hello will be used as a "more personal way to sign into Windows," along with Microsoft Passport as an avenue to log on in a "multi-step, more secure way." Extensions for the Microsoft Edge will also be added to the software's browser. Once applied, the feature is said to improve its overall functionality.
An "enterprise data protection" will be accessible as well, as it provides protection from data leaks. The heavy-duty encryption is tailor-made for business data and apps.
The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will be free across all Windows devices as well as the video game console Xbox One. Included are devices which already have the operating system, like smartphones, PCs, tablets and even the latest HoloLens goggles. On another note, Microsoft confirmed that dedicated apps for social media networks like Facebook and Instagram will be released anytime soon. For now, users need to stay tuned as Microsoft is expected to unveil more details in the coming days.
