'Westworld' premiere date news: New poster released, latest full trailer hints conflict between robots and humans

After going through a series of production troubles, HBO's upcoming sci-fi drama "Westworld" is nearing its much-hyped debut. A month before it officially premieres, the network recently released a new poster for the series.

Based on Michael Crichton's 1973 film of the same title, "Westworld" is a futuristic theme park populated by artificial intelligence (a.k.a. "hosts"). The R-rated play-scape offers human-looking robots who can play any kind of role for park guests (a.k.a. "the desires"), but they will later begin to question their existence. Instead of spiraling out of control and attacking the guests like in the film, the hosts will start asking questions to their creators. Soon, a conflict between humans and robots arises.

The latest poster features a host being created, along with the tagline "Every hero has a code." A seemingly unfinished skeletal robotic host is seen standing amongst the show's futuristic double "W" logo, set against a Wild West background.

Meanwhile, an intense full trailer has also been released. "Our creatures have been misbehaving," Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) says. The 2-minute clip focuses on Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), a young and naive frontier host. She has been the park's oldest resident, having been revived after going through countless "deaths" â€” which the makers programmed her to forget. "You and everyone you know were built to gratify the desires of people who pay to visit your world," the park's head programmer (Jeffrey Wright) warns. The teaser also shows how hosts are created from scratch and how they are developed.

Also starring as the creators, the desires and the robots are James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Tessa Thompson, Jimmi Simpson, Ed Harris, and more. The program was created for television by executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, with Nolan also directing.

"Westworld," which will have ten one-hour-long episodes, premieres on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
