'Walking Dead' Mid-Season Finale Plot Spoilers, Recap: Beth Dies in Shocker for Fans

The mid-season finale of "The Walking Dead" did not disappoint fans when it aired on Sunday at 9/8c on AMC.

The action-packed episode titled "Coda" started with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) shooting dead one of three police officers his group had captured after he tried to break free from his cuffs. These were the cops who fatally ran down Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) during a chase. One the two remaining cops under Rick's custody agreed to lie to Office Dawn (Christine Woods) that the officer killed by Rick actually died in the hands of walkers. Rick and the cops hoped that with this story, the prisoner exchange would go ahead.

Meanwhile in the hospital, Beth (Emily Kinney) and Dawn had to help each other when another cop attacked Dawn. The fight ended with Beth pushing the cop down an elevator shaft to his death. At this point, Carol (Melissa McBride) woke up.

At the church where Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Carl (Chandler Riggs) were waiting, Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) returned after visiting a school where he learned that the people were slowly becoming cannibals. A large number of walkers chasing him eventually overran the church.

As Michonne, Carl and Gabriel escaped, they met with Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and his gang who arrived in a fire truck. They then decided to join Rick and his gang in Atlanta.

At Grady Memorial Hospital, during the prisoner exchange, Dawn tried to show that she was still the boss and demanded that Noah (Tyler James Williams) be returned as she was losing Carol and Beth. Beth tried to stab her with a pair of scissors but Dawn shot her. Daryl (Norman Reedus) struck back and killed Dawn.

The end of the episode saw Abraham and his gang arriving at the hospital. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) broke down when she saw her sister's body in Daryl's arms.

After the credits rolled, Morgan (Lennie James) was seen arriving at the church where he found the map with instructions written by Abraham intended for Rick. This made him realize that Rick was still alive.
