Set to premiere in November, the second half of "Vikings" season 4 will mark the demise of Ragnar Lothbrok and the reign of his new successor. Will his son Ivar the Boneless be the best person to take over as king?

According to reports, the show's succeeding episodes will explore Ragnar as he hands over the reigns to his son Ivar The Boneless. Among his four children, Ragnar will choose the crippled Ivar as his successor, which is a firm indication that he is well-aware of his youngest son's capability. Despite his physical condition, Ivar will prove to everyone that he is worthy of the throne. It is also said that his darker side will emerge in the second part of season 4.

Back in July, series creator Michael Hirst spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and he hinted that Ivar's role will be bigger than what viewers would ever expect. Although his condition will give him a lot of sympathy, he is still an interesting character in the sense that he will be "pushing boundaries."

"His role is fantastic, he'll challenge the audience because Ivar is well known as someone who was very extreme and very cool and yet he was a cripple," he said. "So there's always going to be hopefully a lot of sympathy for him, but at the same time he pushes boundaries. He's very challenging and he's really going to emerge as one of the big stars of this show."

Meanwhile, reports say that there will be evident hostility between Lagertha and Queen Aslaug in the future episodes. In the midseason finale, it was revealed that tensions continue to build up between Lagertha and Queen Aslaug, leaving the former wounded after huge fight. There are speculations that the two powerful figures will battle it out for the throne, and Lagertha might end up winning what she believes is rightfully hers.

"Vikings" season 4 returns on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 9 p.m. EST on History.
