Vampire Diaries Season 8 spoilers: Nina Dobrev to appear as Elena in more than one episode?

There are rumors making rounds on the internet regarding the major comeback of "The Vampire Diaries" alum Nina Dobrev for The CW's supernatural drama series. The fans have speculated since the finale episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 that Dobrev will be returning as Elena Gilbert in more than one episode for the eighth season.
The last episode of Season 7 featured a cameo appearance of Dobrev as Elena in the flashback sequence of Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) while inside the mysterious vault of The Armory. However, there are still no developments regarding Elena's condition as the character is still in a deep slumber.
"The Vampire Diaries" executive producer and showrunner, Julie Plec revealed in an interview with TV Line that she wants Dobrev to reprise her character in the show because there is still a lot of information about her character Elena Gilbert that needs to be told.
Plec stated that she would feel very happy if Dobrev would appear in the final episode of "The Vampire Diaries." It was already reported that Season 8 will be the concluding chapter of the TV series, and Plec is looking forward to working with the actress for the last season. Still, the producer said that her team will appreciate whatever time Dobrev is willing to give for the show.
Dobrev's character, Elena, was the reigning main female antagonist in the show for six straight seasons. It was not until the show's Season 6 finale that Dobrev gave up her female lead status and left the show to focus on her personal life.
Plec also told TV Line Elena still has a lot of stories that the show was not able to touch due to Dobrev's exit. If the actress gave a go signal to do the remaining chapter based on her availability, then they would be able to write the last important moments of the character in the story.
"There is still a chapter of Elena's story left to be told... I'll take Dobrev for whatever she's willing to do to tell that story," Plec said.
