Vampire Diaries and The Originals next crossover spoilers news: Will feature reunion of Klaus and Caroline

As the seventh season of "The Vampire Diaries" concluded last weekend and the action-packed finale of "The Originals" Season 3 is expected to happen this week, it was revealed by the shows' showrunner that there are plans to have more crossovers between the two next season. Long-time fans of the show will be delighted, especially those who are shipping the tandem of Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) and Niklaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) as the two are expected to be reunited in one of the planned crossover episodes.
The two shows being aired by CW are sharing the same universe that involves the dark and mysterious vampires, as well as werewolves and witches. In the recently concluded "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7, a crossover episode happened as Niklaus shared the screen with Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) for a brief moment. Another scene showed Caroline with her twins visiting New Orleans to see Klaus, but she found out that the Original hybrid was nowhere to be found in the past three years.
Also, a crossover episode was shown in "The Originals" this season as Stefan appeared in one episode, seeking refuge from a vicious vampire huntress.
"The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" Executive Producer Julie Plec recently revealed in an interview with TV Line that there are plans for more crossover episodes in the upcoming season. Specifically, the crossover may finally see the reunion of Caroline and Niklaus. She revealed that Caroline mentioning Klaus' name in one of the recent crossover episodes is a sign that the two characters will meet each other personally in the future, although it is not known exactly when.
"It's definitely a hint. This year, as we've crossed over, we've acknowledged 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'The Originals' shared universe. As we know from 'The Originals,' there's a prophecy predicting the demise of the Mikaelson family, so it was a nice little tease for viewers of that show to ask themselves, 'Wait, what the hell happened to Klaus?'" Plec stated.
While crossover between the two shows has been very rare for the past three seasons, Plec revealed that they are planning to maximize the crossovers next season.
"It's a rare luxury to have two shows in a shared universe that you could do that. So to not do it feels like we're missing a really fun creative opportunity, a way to celebrate both shows. But it's not like anyone over at the network is calling us and being like, 'You need two crossovers this year.' I think it'd be fun to keep finding small, organic ways to do it. Like when we had Matt Donovan show up on 'The Originals," she said.
