'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End' release date update: Game franchise's last installment up for May 10 launch

With a release date initially set for May 10, "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" might be the last from the widely-popular video game franchise.

Sony Computer Entertainment

Neil Druckmann, the creative director of Naughty Dog recently caught up with Toronto Sun to discuss the highly anticipated action-adventure video game. "Uncharted is at the height of its popularity, this game will probably do better than the previous three games," he said.

Despite the overall sales of the game reaching approximately 22 million copies, Druckmann said that doing more sequels solely for financial gain is not how they work. "For Uncharted, it really felt like this is it. We've told everything we can with this character. As artists, it's a good place for us to walk away," the creative director added.

Veteran video game actor Nolan North seems to agree with Druckmann's statement in terms of where "Uncharted 4" should go. Throughout the series, North provided his voice for the character of Nate, as well as the motion-capture performance.

Comparing Nate to Harrison Ford's aging Indiana Jones, North said, "This thing could sell 10 million copies and Sony says, 'We need another one, bring him back!' But like me, he's getting a little older. I think the big thing is you really don't want to do Uncharted: The Crystal Skull, if you know what I mean. It's nice to go out on top."

Dubbed as Nate's greatest adventure ever, the story of "Uncharted 4" will pick up several years after the events of "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception." Nathan Drake has now retired from fortune hunting, and he settled down with wife Elena Fisher. In a sudden turn of events, his presumed-to-be-dead brother Sam suddenly appears and asks for his help. The two embark on a journey to figure out the conspiracy behind Libertalia, a long-forgotten pirate colony with a fabled treasure.

"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is a joint effort between game developer Naughty Dog and Sony Computer Entertainment as the publisher. The third-person shooter game will be available for the Play Station 4 console.
