'Unbroken' Movie Release Date: Inspiring Story Of Louis Zamperini's Life Seen Heading For Box Office Success
The life story of Louis Zamperini, the track and field star who became a war hero and inspirational speaker, is marked by exemplary courage and forgiveness.
However, several reviews note that the story has been "watered down" in the film "Unbroken." Despite this, the film is expected to do well in the box office when it is released on Dec. 25.

"Unbroken" is billed as a true story derived from the book of the same title written by Laura Hillenbrand, which was on the bestsellers' list for four years.
The Guardian, in its review, says the film is a "rote" reproduction of the story written by Hillenbrand and lacks freshness and intensity. It says the only gripping scene was at the opening of the movie when Japanese planes are seen attacking a B-24 bomber.
Variety, in its review, notes that Director Angelina Jolie created a beautiful film that is stirring. But at the same time, it says the film has a number of flaws that keep it from providing any dramatic thrills. On the whole it is underwhelming, the review says.
In spite of these shortcomings, Variety says the film could do well at the worldwide box office and will attract a lot of attention.
The cast of the film has been getting recognition for their work. Jack O'Connell, who plays the lead role of Zamperini, has been hailed for his "wonderful" performance. Also, special mention is being made of Japanese actor Miyavi who plays the role of Watanabe, otherwise known as the "Bird." In the film he is a sadistic guard who beats and imparts a variety of punishments on prisoners, and he singles out Zamperini for special attention.
With Awards season coming up, "Unbroken" is being positioned as a potential Oscar contender. Several websites say the film could see Jolie earning a Best Director nomination.
