2016 presidential hopeful Donald Trump said recently that he would "absolutely" hire fellow candidate Ben Carson as a member of his staff if he were to become president.

While Trump and Carson have exchanged barbs regarding their ability to run the country and their religious dedication, Trump said Thursday that he would "absolutely" consider Carson as a member of his presidential administration.

"I would put him -- I'd love to have that," Trump said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" this week.

The real estate mogul went on to describe the retired neurosurgeon as a "nice man" and "qualified," adding that he and Carson maintain a "very good relationship."

"Certain elements of the administration, I think he'd be very good," Trump added.

Trump made headlines in recent weeks for comments regarding Carson's ability to run the White House, with Trump saying he doesn't believe Carson would make a good "jobs" president due to his former profession as a neurosurgeon.

"I think it's a very difficult situation that he'd be placed in," Trump said in a previous interview with The Daily Caller.

"He's really a friend of mine, I just think it's a very difficult situation that he puts himself into, to have a doctor who wasn't creating jobs and would have a nurse or maybe two nurses. It's such a different world. I've created tens of thousands of jobs over the years," Trump added.
