'True Detective' season 3 spoilers news: Series already axed by HBO?

HBO

Will there ever be a third season for "True Detective?"  Fans have been waiting for their favorite series to return to the small screen, but it remains unclear if it will be back anytime soon.

Contradicting reports about the show's renewal/cancellation have been surfacing online, further causing confusion among anticipating viewers. During the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 6, an ad featuring "True Detective" was aired. It might seem like a simple and innocent advertisement, but the crime anthology series was tagged as "complete" which caught the attention of viewers that time. This led to the speculations that HBO already canceled the show, as "Silicon Valley" and "Veep" were not labeled similarly. On the other hand, "Boardwalk Empire" and "Rome" were also marked as "completed," as both series already ended.

Meanwhile, there are also reports pointing the other way, stating that the show remains far from over. According to True Detective Rumors, there is still hope for fans and the "complete" label should not bother them. After all, it follows an anthology format, which means that every season has a story of its own.

Rumor has it that the show's ratings started dwindling down last season, and reports claim that it's mostly because of the poor writing. In order to bring back the show to its glory, new writers will allegedly come on board to help develop the plot. The media outlet claims that "True Detective" will soon have its third season, which will probably premiere sometime next year.

For the time being, HBO has yet to give an official announcement if the series will indeed push through. As for the various rumors circulating online, readers are advised to take them with a grain of salt. For now, all fans can do is wait for the network to issue a statement regarding the future of the show.
