'True Detective' season 3 release date delay news, spoilers: EP working on HBO Drama causes 'True Detective' delay

The third season of HBO's crime-drama anthology TV show "True Detective" will be pushed back to 2018 because producer Nic Pizzolatto has been appointed as the executive producer and writer of another upcoming HBO drama series.
According to reports, "Iron Man" actor Robert Downey Jr. will star in the brand new HBO series which Pizzolatto is going to write for. His wife, Susan, is expected to star in it as well. The couple will take the lead roles for the forthcoming HBO series.
Since "True Detective" was deliberately postponed to make way for this alleged show, fans are now worried that the network might announce the cancelation of the series. There have been reports suggesting this due to a decline in ratings for the second season. The first season, which featured Matthew McConaughey, was a big success but the recent one reportedly paled in comparison. The second season featured Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell.
HBO president Michael Lombardo previously admitted that he pressured Pizzolatto to write the entire second season in such a short time frame.
"He (Pizzolatto) had to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. Find his muse. And so I think that's what I learned from it. Don't do that anymore," Lombardo added.
McConaughey, who is also one of the executive producers of the show, expressed his desire to reprise his role for the third season. The actor admitted on DirecTV's "Rich Eisen Show" that he misses his character, Rust Cohle. He added, "I miss watching him on Sunday nights."
Last July, HBO Programming Chief Casey Bloys told Entertainment Weekly that the show "is not dead." He added, "I talked to Nic about it and both Nic and HBO are open to another season. I don't think Nic has a take and he's working on some other projects. We're open to somebody else writing it and Nic supervising it. It's a valuable franchise, it's not dead, we just don't have a take for a third season yet."
