With its cast starting to take shape, the second season of "True Detective" begins shooting next month.

The first season of the hit show debuted to high ratings when it aired earlier in the year. The cast consisting of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson earned a ton of critical acclaim.

Since the show is an anthology, each season will focus on a different plot and a different set of characters.

Since the show's first season finale aired on March 9, 2014, several actors have been rumored to have accepted roles offered to them in the second season. Among the Hollywood A-Listers who were named were Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. Chastain subsequently stated that she had been offered a part but turned it down.

Last month, the first two names of the cast were revealed by HBO. They are actors Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. Farrell will play the role of Ray Velcoro, a "compromised detective" who finds that he is caught between the frying pan and the fire. They refer to the corrupt police and the mobster who has bought him.

Vaughn is Frank Semyon, a long standing criminal who plans to set up a legitimate business. However, his business partner winds up murdered, which could result in him losing all his wealth.

Justin Lin is tipped to helm the initial two episodes of the second season which is going to consist of a total of eight episodes. The synopsis for the second season that was released by HBO notes that "Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."

As the synopsis stated that there would be four leads in the season, HBO has since recruited Taylor Kitsch to take on one of the lead roles. He is rumored to be playing Paul Woodrugh. After Kitsch mentioned his involvement during an interview for AdWeek, his addition to the cast has also been confirmed by Matthew McConaughey.
