The fifth installment of the "Transformers" movie franchise will be released in the U.S. on June 23, 2017.  Mark Wahlberg will reprise his role as Cade Yeager with Peter Cullen as the voice of transformer robot Optimus Prime. Last January, it was confirmed that Michael Bay will direct the film.

In a recent interview with Collider, Michael Bay discussed that "Transformers 5" will be the last movie in the Transformers franchise he will direct. Bay explained that the reason behind his decision was another film he intends to give more focus to, which is entitled "13 Hours." The director is expected to do more independent projects in the future. Bay's departure from the franchise may be unfortunate news for the fans of the previous films, but there are speculations that Megan Fox will reprise her role as Mikaela Banes. However, no word yet if she will be back in "Transformers 5," or if her return will be for a future "Transformers" installment.

Since rumors claim of Fox's return, speculations of Shia LaBeouf returning for another "Transformers" is also surfacing online. If LaBeouf ever reprises his role as xxxx , it will definitely not be in "Transformers 5," as Bay confirmed in an interview with Inquirer. The director expressed how difficult it was to make a fourth movie with the same characters, so they decided to come up with a new storyline with new cast members. "I wanted to do one more. I knew that the only way to make it work out was to reinvent the whole thing. There's a reason why we have a new cast—it's in the script," he added. Furthermore, Bay praised LaBeouf's acting skills, making him unreplaceable for the role. "Originally, the studio said, 'Let's just do it with another kid.' I said, 'No, because everyone's going to compare that kid to Shia, who's like magic lightning in a bottle. He's one of a kind!" the director said.

As posted on the IMDB page of "Transformers 5," the story line reads, "Cade Yeager is under protection of the Autobots Bumblebee, Hound, Drift, and Crosshairs. Cade along with his daughter and her boyfriend a street racer must try to protect the Earth. Optimus is missing, searching along the edge of the universe for his creator, Unicron. However Unicron creates a plot to destroy Earth, and Optimus must lead the Autobots in their efforts to stop Unicron."
