'Toy Story' 4 release date, news & update: Woody and Buzz continue adventures in fourth film

Andy's story with his toys ended beautifully in the third installment of the franchise but Pixar has found a way to continue Woody and Buzz Lightyear's adventures.
Though Woody and the rest of the gang found a new home with Bonnie, the group will reportedly indulge in more escapades in a fourth film.
In 2014, Walt Disney Company chairperson Bob Iger announced at an earning call that "A Bug's Life" director John Lasseter will be directing another film as part of the franchise. Meanwhile, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, and Lee Unkrich, the three storytellers of the first three films, will once again be in charge of the storyline.
"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us," Lasseter said. "We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie — and I wanted to direct it myself," he added.
The toys' new life with Bonnie will definitely be featured in the film. Though little is known about it, recent reports suggest that Woody's romance with former love interest Bo Peep will be rekindled.
To recap, Bo Peep wasn't featured in the third film, which implied that something happened to her during the time between the second and the third movie. Perhaps viewers will finally learn what happened to Bo Beep and her sheep in "Toy Story 4."
In 2014, Iger announced that the film will be released in June 16, 2017. Since Pixar still hasn't revealed any trailers and hasn't done promotions for the fourth movie, perhaps the release date was pushed back. This is not uncommon in the industry.
Stay tuned for more updates on "Toy Story 4."
