'Tomb Raider' movie release date, news and updates: Producer reveals details about the plot
The "Tomb Raider" video game franchise was rebooted back in 2013, and now Warner Bros. is looking to reboot the movie franchise that originally starred Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. The producer of the movie, Graham King, talks about the plot of the film and he says that it will focus on Lara (Alicia Vikander) finding her father, Richard James Croft.
In an interview with HeyUGuys, King teases that this movie will see more of Lara going back to her roots. He says, "This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and i think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and i think we've got the right crew and a great director and I think it's going to be really fun making a film like this."
Some fans have pointed out that none of the games so far had to deal with Lara finding her father, but it has been constantly implied that Richard Croft is the reason why Lara took up tomb raiding in the first place. Even in the Angeline Jolie movie, Richard Croft (Jon Voight) was still an integral part of the plot and his disappearance was a constant driving force for Lara in the movie.
The upcoming movie is said to be based on the rebooted "Tomb Raider" franchise that Square Enix started, but even that game had no mention of Richard Croft at all. The closest that the new "Tomb Raider" has gotten to explaining Richard's history is in the expansion "Blood Ties" for "Rise of the Tomb Raider" where Lara explores Croft Manor searching for any clues that her family left behind for her.
No official release date has been announced for the "Tomb Raider" movie.
