'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 release date 2016: No confirmed air date yet as contradicting storylines make fans guess who main protagonist will be

Despite uncertainties on its production, fans are hoping that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 would be aired soon. It would be remembered that following fan furor over Studio Pierrot's apparent "injustice" in executing season 2, there have been talks that Madhouse will be taking over its production.

More than the controversy shrouding its production, fans are still eagerly awaiting the third season of "Tokyo Ghoul" especially after a new protagonist was introduced – Haise Sasaki. There are speculations that Haise could possibly be Ken Kaneki's assumed identity after losing his memory and returning to the Commission of Counter Goal.

According to International Business Times, the only hitch to this plot is that when Kaneki assumes Haise's identity, he would choose to be a Ghoul Investigator. Still, these are just speculations concerning the story arc that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 would follow.

Movie News Guide noted that the third and final season of "Tokyo Ghoul" would veer away from the plot of its original manga source. Hence, it would be interesting to find out if the anime can pull it off.

It appears that the upcoming season would adapt much of the live action depictions in the seventh volume of the manga. Apparently, this is one of the strong points of the series.

Previously, it was reported that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 would be released June 17, but obviously, fans are still waiting for a specific release date. They are likewise hoping that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 won't suffer the same fate that "One Punch Man" has experienced – numerous delays, hurdles and a long-standing hiatus.

With the hype building up on the new protagonist, followers of the anime would also want to see other main characters return for the final season. IBT said that while an official release date hasn't been revealed yet, there's a strong possibility that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 would air much later this year or early 2017, probably around March.
