'Titanfall 2' news, updates: Game officially goes gold; designer's celebratory tweet sparks unexpected console wars among fans

"Titanfall 2" designer Drew McCoy recently posted a tweet celebrating the game after it officially went gold over the weekend. However, his two posts about the milestone seemed to have sparked an unexpected console war among fans.

In his tweet, McCoy posted a seemingly innocent disc copy of the game to mark the occasion. However, loyal Xbox One fans are not too pleased with the idea that McCoy—along with developer Respawn Entertainment, who retweeted the image—posted a PlayStation 4 copy of "Titanfall 2," even though the game will also be available for Xbox One and Windows PC.

As Polygon points out, McCoy and Respawn weren't actually showing allegiance to a single console. Once a studio is all set to print a game, an early disc ahead of manufacturing retail copies is requested. Unlike the pre-release discs for PlayStation 4, the Xbox One version known as a "green disc" doesn't look attractive. Since the PS4 copy looks far more presentable for a celebratory tweet, McCoy opted to use it instead.

In terms of the game's features, recent reports confirm that it will feature the Angel City map, which was a fan-favorite in the original game. It will be the first DLC map to be released that is free for all users. For people who will pre-order "Titanfall 2," they will have access to the Angel City map three days prior to its official release.

Set to be debuted later this month, "Titanfall 2" is a first-person shooter video game sequel to "Titanfall (2014)." The plot centers on Frontier Militia rifleman Jack Cooper, who aspires to become a Titan pilot. Stranded behind IMC lines, the main character is compelled to team up with a veteran Vanguard-class Titan named BT-7274. Together, the duo will work against overwhelming odds to uphold a mission that was never meant to be carried out.

"Titanfall 2" is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Oct. 28. It is developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts.
