Thousands gathered throughout the U.S. over the weekend to protest Planned Parenthood and its use of taxpayer money following the release of several controversial videos against the abortion provider.

The nationwide protest, dubbed the National Day of Protest Against Planned Parenthood, saw thousands gather at 300 clinics in all 50 U.S. states and Washington, D.C. to voice their opposition to the abortion provider, which receives $500 million in taxpayer money per year.

John Piper, who previously served as pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, offered a prayer for "righteousness" as he attended a Sunday protest against Planned Parenthood in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"We want to pray for Planned Parenthood that they might live to righteousness," Piper, who now serves as the chancellor of Bethlehem College and Seminary, prayed to a crowd of about 6,000 protesters.

"We wanna ask that according to their title that is on their wall, Planned Parenthood, that they would bring about nurturing parents rather than helping parents stop being parents by killing their children," Piper added.

Leslie Blackwell, regional co-coordinator with the Silent No More Awareness Campaign for Virginia, told The Christian Post that a protest on Sunday in Richmond received hundreds of people.

"We had over 500 people here and that's great. Usually you're lucky to get 10. At Forty Days for Life sometimes you might get 20, but never the crowds like this. Its been exciting, just nonstop response," Blackwell said.

The protests come after the activist group the Center for Medical Progress released multiple videos that showed executives of the abortion organization discussing the procurement of fetal tissue for research, among other controversial topics.
