Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz), and Randall's (Sterling K. Brown) struggles as children will be unraveled in the upcoming episode of NBC's hit rookie drama "This is Us."

Titled "The Pool," next week's episode will unravel more about the personalities of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca's (Mandy Moore) children. According to the official synopsis for episode 5, Rebecca and Jack take their kids Kevin, Kate, and Randall to the community pool on a hot day. While spending some time together, they eventually realize each child is dealing with their own struggles.

In the present, Kevin continues to pursue his passion and auditions for his first Broadway play in New York. He will later meet a determined actress who is less than impressed by him. Meanwhile, Toby (Chris Sullivan) runs into his ex-wife while at a restaurant with Kate, leading Kate into a spiral of self-doubt. The topic of deep-rooted issues of race discrimination will also be tackled, as William (Ron Cephas Jones) is mistakenly reported as a loiterer in Randall's predominately white neighborhood.

Back in the third episode, viewers saw more of Rebecca and Miguel (Jon Huertas). He was clearly not Jack, which made viewers wonder what happened to Rebecca and Jack's relationship. Although it was clear that they are no longer together, Rebecca was still wearing the necklace that Jack gave her.

"We're going to see a couple in their high moments and then also in their low moments," Ventimiglia told E! News. "So the fact that it's present day and Jack is not grandpa, that's looking in the distance and being like, oh, I see where I'm going but I can't quite see the road around the mountain. You're going to find out, you're going to learn about it."

The freshman season of "This is Us" airs every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
