AMC's hit zombie series "The Walking Dead" still has a few weeks to go before officially returning to the airwaves, but fans got an early treat when a special sneak peak for the season 7 premiere was revealed during the recently-concluded New York Comic Con (NYCC).

In the show's NYCC panel session with most of the cast and producers, Negan's portrayer, Jeffrey Dean Morgan hinted that his character is certainly worse than the Governor from season 3. "It's not just the charisma," he told the audience. "A lot of people follow him out of fear of getting an iron to the face or worse. But he's also kept a lot of people alive for a long time."

After the Q&A, fans were shown a short sneak peek footage from the premiere. Titled "Right Hand Man," the trailer featured a conversation between Negan and a member of the Grimes clan that he didn't kill. Some eagle-eyed fans immediately noticed an intriguing detail in the clip: a ring sitting in a pool of fresh blood. It appears to be Maggie's (Lauren Cohan) ring, leading viewers to speculate that she might be the one who will die.

Season 6 left off with an intense cliffhanger that kept viewers on the edge of their seats. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Greg Nicotero obviously wouldn't reveal the identity of Negan's victim but he shared clues on what viewers could expect to unravel in the upcoming season 7 premiere.

"Well, I can tell you from the position of the director's chair, it was by far the most emotional episode that I've ever shot," he teased. "Where we left these characters at the end of season 6 is, they've been broken... now they're in a situation that they've never been in before where the cavalry is not coming over the hill. Carol is not going to show up and blow up the propane tank outside of Terminus. These things aren't going to happen, and it's just devastating."

The 7th season of "The Walking Dead" premieres on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
