"The Walking Dead" recently came to a close leaving fans baffled with a major cliffhanger, as it was not revealed who Negan killed in the finale's last scene.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman explained that he was well aware of the negative comments from angry fans. "We knew that there would be a reaction," he said. "We probably didn't anticipate it would be so big, but cliffhangers are supposed to elicit a reaction. I mean, that's what they're designed to do. So, to a certain extent, it did its job. It maybe did its job a little too well, but I think people that have invested in six years of the show may not be happy about that cliffhanger, and I think that's a completely valid response, and I completely respect their opinion."

Despite the negative reaction from fans, Kirkman does not regret their decision to leave fans hanging. He mentioned how it was all part of telling a story, and it could not have been done differently. "We're working that much harder to come back for season 7 and make sure that the payoff is worth the dread of the uncertainty that we've given you over the months that we're on break," he added.

On another note, new details about season 7 plot have recently surfaced. According to a spoiler site for the show, Daryl, Dwight, Negan along the other Saviors reportedly shot scenes in the Sanctuary. If the rumors were true, this could mean that Daryl was not killed by Negan. Reports say that if Daryl indeed survived, he will have more presence in the upcoming season. There is also a huge possibility that Daryl's conflict with Dwight will be the season's key storyline.

"The Walking Dead" returns to the small screen for its seventh season this coming October.
