Last Monday's two-hour special of "The Voice" Season 8 on NBC saw the end of the Blind Auditions and the beginning of the Battle Rounds.

The first hour began with the culmination of the Blinds as coaches Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams competed to complete their individual team rosters of 12. Adam, Christina and Blake each needed one more team member, while Parrell had two slots left.

First up was Nathan Hermida, a 17-year-old science geek who turned into a smooth crooner when he sang Miguel's "Sure Thing." Adam and Christina fought over him, with Adam laying on the flattery and Christina using flirtatious words to lure him in. Nathan chose to be with Team Adam.

Paul Pfau sang "Fly Me to the Moon" with a rock edge. A self-confessed Maroon 5 fan, he was perfect for Team Adam, but Adam has already filled his team so Adam was left frustratingly pounding on his non-working button. Pharrell easily beat out Blake to get Paul for his team. However, Paul was able to give Adam a demo CD he wanted to give 10 years ago when they first met but chickened out.

Vance Smith sang "Reach Out, I'll Be There." Both Pharrell and Christina turned at the last second. He completed Team Christina's roster.

Caitlin Caporale sang next and although she was the perfect Team Christina talent, Christina couldn't get her anymore. Caitlin sang "Impossible," did a duet with Christina and even sat on Christina's red chair. However, it was to Team Pharrell that she went to.

Hannah Kirby was the last team member to join Blake Shelton's team. She sang Box Tops' "The Letter."

In the second hour, the Battles began. Blake had Meghan Trainor as adviser, Adam had Ellie Goulding, Christina had Nick Jonas and Pharrell had Lionel Richie.

First Battle was for Team Pharrell between Ashley Morgan and Mia Z. They performed ZZ Ward's "Put the Gun Down." The song choice allowed the two women to play off each other's talents. Ashley was technically a stronger competitor, but Mia had that certain stage presence and vocal quality that was more interesting. Pharrell chose Mia. All three coaches tried to steal Ashley, but Christina prevailed and Ashley moved to Team Christina.

Next Battle was for Team Adam between James McNeice and Tonya Boyd Cannon. They sang Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T." It was evident that this was not a match made in heaven and there were no surprises when Tonya was declared the winner and no one stole James.

Next Battle was for Team Blake between Brian Johnson and Joshua Davis. They sang "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." Both contestants did well. Blake chose Brian, with the gospel singer vibe, while Adam stole Joshua, who had the more gritty, rocky appeal, perfect for Team Adam.

So this was how the first hour of Battles turned out. Tune in again for the next set of battles!
