"The Voice" has announced its lineup of coaches for its eighth season even as Season 7 is progressing into the battle rounds.

The two coaches returning to join regulars Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will be Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams.

Williams is making his own kind of history in "The Voice" as he will become the first coach not to rotate out and will instead appear in two consecutive seasons.

This gives Aguilera and Williams an opportunity to work together in the show, something they haven't done until now.

Williams is already making a mark in "The Voice." He was a standout along with guest coach Alicia Keys during the episode that aired on Oct. 15.

Aguilera was one of the original coaches of "The Voice" but ended up missing three seasons. She missed the fourth season because she was on tour. Then she had to skip Seasons 6 and 7 because of her engagement to Matt Rutler and the subsequent birth of her daughter.

When she was promoting her album "Lotus," Shakira took her place as coach on "The Voice" in Season 6. Gwen Stefani was added as a coach along with Williams in Season 7.

Speaking about Aguilera's return, Paul Telegdy, President of NBC Entertainment, said: "We are excited to welcome Christina back to join judges Adam, Blake and Pharrell in what will be an incredibly competitive season."

Reporting on Aguilera's return to "The Voice," Time magazine noted that Williams has gained attention by appearing on the show. While other long standing coaches Shelton and Levine have seen their careers improve after they came onboard, Aguilera's career appears stuck on the ground. Time magazine attributes this partly to her "labored-over diva act that runs entirely counter to the earthiness and humility of the aspirant singers on 'The Voice.'"
