'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 updates, spoilers: New teaser features Bonnie joining search for Enzo and Damon; Will Bennett witch survive without her powers?

Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) will be joining the hunt for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey). in The CW's hit supernatural drama "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
A new extended trailer for the upcoming installment has been recently released, giving fans a first look at Bonnie since she lost her magic back in season 7. In the 44-second clip, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Bonnie are on a search through the woods. Stefan explains to Bonnie that they must follow every possible clue that could lead them to Damon and Enzo. Without hesitation, Bonnie declares, "I'm in." Although the trailer doesn't tease any romantic moments between Stefan and Caroline (Candice King), it confirms that Damon has returned to his old ways—preying on innocent victims passing through nearly-deserted roads.
In a recent interview, executive producer Julie Plec hinted that season 8 will explore Bonnie as she goes through a "pretty unlucky run of trying to get her magic back." To make matters worse, the EP added that "she's a bit at the point of giving up." Bonnie already experienced losing her magic before, leading to speculations that the Bennett with will get her powers back before the series comes to an end.
Meanwhile, fans are still hoping to see Nina Dobrev reprise her role as Elena for the last time in the series for its final run. The CW president Mark Pedowitz already confirmed that "there are discussions going on" to have Dobrev return even just for the series finale.
Elena is still in a suspended sleep state and her life is currently connected to Bonnie's. It is believed that it could take decades before she finally wakes up, but if the writers will bring Elena back in the final season, Bonnie would either have to be killed off or a special magic spell would have to be cast.
