'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Damon and Enzo target new victim in episode 2; Matt returns to Mystic Falls

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) target someone from Stefan's (Paul Wesley) past in the upcoming episode of The CW's hit supernatural drama "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

Titled "Today Will Be Different," the episode airing next week will explore Damon and Enzo's new victim. According to the official synopsis for episode 2, Stefan, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Caroline (Candice King) will be heading to North Carolina after learning that someone from Stefan's past might be Damon and Enzo's next victim. Upon arriving in the area, Bonnie takes drastic measures as she tries to break Enzo free of the unknown force that has a hold over him. Back at the Armory, Alaric (Matt Davis) and Georgie (guest star Allison Scagliotti) encounter a mysterious symbol that may have ties to the supernatural and evil force controlling Damon and Enzo. Finally, Stefan gives Caroline an unexpected gift.

Meanwhile, Matt (Zach Roerig) has been on the road for quite some time now, but he will soon be back to Mystic Falls. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly's Spoiler Room segment, executive producer/showrunner Julie Plec shared hints on the character's impending return.

"He comes back in a nice surprising way, eventually," Plec teased. "He's gone on with his life and he's trying to find himself and to be a man and to figure out who he is and where he's from and how can he find an identity outside of all the shâ€“ he's been through in Mystic Falls."

According to the EP, Matt's journey to find himself will eventually lead him back to the viewers' favorite small town located in Virginia. "Mystic Falls in a vicious temptress constantly luring people back in," she added, which might be a clue that more old characters will be coming back for the show's farewell season.
