'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Alaric leaves Mystic Falls, gets job 'he was always meant to have'

When fans check back in on Alaric (Matt Davis) in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 after the nerve-wracking events in the previous season, the father of two will have a new job and a new home.
Previewing the first episode of the series, executive producer Julie Plec revealed that Alaric will have his Indiana Jones mode on in the new season.
According to Plec, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will see Alaric "running the collection of some of the strangest and oldest supernatural artifacts in the world."
Alaric is now actually the man in charge of the armory, a "job he was always meant to have" as per the executive producer.
Despite this, the inevitable move to take on such responsibility, which comes with its dangerous risks, will have him worried about making orphans out of his kids. In addition to that, this career move also requires him to move out of Texas.
Plec revealed in an Entertainment Weekly interview what when "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 begins, Alaric will be "feeling a little bit detached from everyone back in Mystic Falls."
Alaric will be staying in a small bachelor apartment located close to the armory. His new home has a guest room for the twins, but he and Caroline (Candice King) will still share custody and work hand in hand to take care of the girls, which will make him a little less homesick.
However, Plec teases that the feeling of longing will definitely help Alaric "find his way there sooner than later" in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will begin with the search for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey), who go out on a killing spree under the control of the clawed monster from the armory.
Stefan (Paul Wesley) will do his best to bring them back, prioritizing it over Caroline while Bonnie (Kat Graham) remains committed despite the fact that she has lost all hope.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere with "Hello, Brother" on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
