In the final season of "The Vampire Diaries," the Salvatore brothers will have a much more peaceful dynamic than they had in the past.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec said that while Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) have had a tumultuous relationship, they will be working together more in the upcoming season 8.

After encountering and being infected by an unnamed evil force in the vault during the season 7 finale, Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) will be wreaking havoc in the teen drama's final season. It will be up to their friends to stop them before more innocent lives are taken.

Fortunately, Stefan will have a good grasp of Damon's precarious situation.

"Stefan somehow inherently understands that what's happened to his brother is not Damon's fault," Plec told the outlet, adding that whatever is happening to Damon is not something he can easily escape.

"He's very focused on trying to rescue his brother from this mess, understanding that the fallout of whatever it is that Damon has to do could impact his ability to be reunited with Elena one day," she explained.

Meanwhile, executive producer Kevin Williamson, who co-created "The Vampire Diaries" with Plec, recently opened up about the show's final season and revealed that they have locked down the ending for the series.

"Things are final now," Williamson told EW. "Decisions are being made. People's lives are hanging in the balance. Relationships hang in the balance. Who's going to end up with whom?" he teased.

While the bosses of "The Vampire Diaries" were tightlipped about the upcoming series finale, Plec admitted that they weren't going for a somber conclusion and said that cynicism had no place in series finales.

According to Plec, she wants to be happy and teary-eyed because of the ending, and feel that she was served a great one whichever way the plot would end.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 debuts Friday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
