A supernatural origin story will be revealed in the upcoming episode of The CW's hit drama "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

Titled "An Eternity of Misery," next week's episode will see one character make an unexpected discovery. According to the official synopsis for episode 4, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) has been tasked to find a mysterious artifact, and his latest mission takes him to Texas. Upon arriving at the location, he has a violent run-in with Peter Maxwell (guest star Joel Gretsch) which leads to a surprising revelation.

Meanwhile, after attempting to save Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Alaric (Matt Davis) decide to team up and uncover the origins of the mysterious figure they're fighting against. Lastly,  Matt's (Zach Roerig) past and present collide in an unexpected way, leading him to return to the fray.

On another note, former cast member Nina Dobrev—who plays Elena—will possibly return to the show anytime soon. Could this mean that Damon will finally get his happy ending with her? Speaking with TV Guide, series creator Julie Plec hinted that Damon might turn into a human to be with Elena for the rest of his life. "That's his plan," Plec said. "I think he was ready to do that before she went down, and he remains ready to do that."

Although Damon is currently enslaved by the mysterious sinister force, Plec mentioned that settling down with Elena has always been on his mind."I think the only hope that he's holding on to is the idea of the two of them living in Tribeca in their brownstone and raising kids and having a life together as humans when this is all said and done," the creator continued.
