'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 air date, spoilers 2016: Damon still under control of mysterious villain; Alaric to finally meet new love interest?

"The Vampire Diaries" is just a month away from its eighth season, and fans may be wondering what lies ahead for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) after he was captured by a new threat.
A new big bad will be introduced next season and Damon is still being held captive by the mysterious villain when season 8 returns. This will put Damon in a situation where he will be forced to become a jury, judge and executioner.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly's Spoiler Room, executive producer Julie Plec shared teasers on Damon's fate. "Damon has unfortunately become a little bit of a servant to an evil who has an opinion on what should happen to people who do bad things," she hinted. "He's a little bit of a minion at the moment, and we'll have to learn who he's a minion for and why."
As fans know, finding true love in the series is never easy. Most of the characters have already experienced their fair share of romance and drama, but Alaric (Matt Davis) is one particular character who had a lot of struggles in his romantic life. With his only living ex-girlfriend technically considered as undead and the show close to its conclusion, will Alaric find someone to become his other half?
Speaking with TV Line, Plec said Alaric having his happy ending might be far from happening. "Alaric hasn't had the best luck with women," she explained. "I don't know if he should be jumping into anything anytime soon, but if he does, the hot nanny would certainly be viable." As previously reported, "Containment" actress Kristen Gutoskie will enter the picture to portray Seline, the nanny who will assist Alaric and Caroline (Candice King) in looking after the twins.
Tune in to the eighth and final season premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
