'The Vampire Diaries' new season renewed or canceled rumors? Will CW series have a few more seasons?

The CW network has recently announced the lineup of TV series currently running on the network that are renewed for another season, and the fans of "The Vampire Diaries" will be delighted to know that the American supernatural drama is one of those shows who will have a follow-up season. Now on its seventh season, "The Vampire Diaries" still follows the story of vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore, as the duo and the rest of Mystic Falls gang fend off the supernatural adversaries in town.

Before Season 7 began, there were rumors that it would be the show's final season on the heels of "The Vampre Diaries" former lead actress Nina Dobrev leaving the show. Some fans got worried that the show will not be the same without Dobrev's character Elena Gilbert. However, it seems that viewers remain hooked to the show that CW decided to give it another season.

Upon having the eighth season greenlit, one of the cast of "The Vampire Diaries" may be hinting that next year's season may actually be the last of the whole series. In an interview with TV Guide, Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore, expressed his enthusiasm that the show was able to reach a seven year run. His tone became quite uncertain whether Season 8 will be all for the show or not.

"Can you believe this sh--? F---ing seven years! Isn't that crazy? ...because very few people I know have closed out a series... Well, we're not closed out yet. We have another year now... I just thought, 'Wow, man. You just navigated seven years, 154 episodes of television.' and by the time it's done, it's going to be 176 episodes, by this time next year." Somerhalder said.

When TV Line cleared up to the actor if Season 8 will be the last of "The Vampire Diaries," Somerhalder said it is out of his knowledge. However, he pointed out Season 8's importance as another chance to bring the show back to its old self which the viewers first fell in love with.

In the latest events of Season 7, Stefan and Damon faces a centuries-old vampire hunter named Raina with strength and skills that rival that of ancient vampires.
