'The Strain' season 3 spoilers, news: Storyline to deviate from Guillermo del Toro's novels; spin-off series to happen?

FX's horror series "The Strain" finally debuted its much-anticipated third season, earning mostly positive reviews from viewers. In a recent interview, series showrunner/writer Calton Cuse shared new details on their plans for season 3 and the show's future after that.
Since the plot is adapted from Guillermo del Toro's popular series of novels, fans are curious if season 3 will stay close to the books. Speaking with Stuff, Cuse says the TV and book version should not be mixed up since they are two separate and distinct worlds. He further stressed that the book just serves as a guide where they draw inspiration from.
"We really felt like our goal was not to do exactly what's in the books, but to sort of set these characters in motion in concert with all of our other collaborators," he explained. "We are basically looking to tell the best version of the story without feeling like the books are an impediment."
In terms of the storyline coming to an end, Cuse revealed that they are already working towards a conclusion. However, he does not want to say anything definitive on the number of seasons they want the show to have. "Anything is possible," he told Moviefone, "but it's just too early to be definitive about it. We are definitely moving towards an ending and that's great."
Cuse admits that the execs and creators have yet to talk about the possibility of a spinoff. They are currently planning for season 4 and they might feature other famous places aside from the Big Apple. "We are starting to talk about Season 4 now, and that's something which we are talking about is to what degree would it be interesting to see 'The Strain' in other places besides New York City," he teased.
