'The Strain' season 3 spoilers: Fet and Justine try to end outbreak in episode 6; series to end after season 4

Fet (Kevin Durand) attempts to end the outbreak by striking the heart of the strigoi army in the upcoming episode of FX's post-apocalyptic thriller "The Strain" season 3.

 Titled "The Battle of Central Park," the next episode will see Fet as he strikes hard at the heart of the strigoi army. In an attempt to drive the strigoi out of Manhattan once and for all, Justine (Samantha Mathis) will embark on a special mission on her own. Meanwhile, Gus (Miguel Gomez) and Angel (Joaquín Cosio) continue fighting for their lives and their freedom. However, they must deal with yet another moral dilemma.

On other related news, the series was recently renewed by FX for its fourth and final season. Currently airing its third season, "The Strain" will premiere its fourth season in summer 2017, marking the final batch of episodes from creators Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and Carlton Cuse.

According to a statement released by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, presidents of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions,ending the acclaimed program was a creative decision made by the producers. "We sincerely thank Carlton Cuse, Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and their creative team as well as the fantastic cast for three exciting seasons of 'The Strain.' Though we're sad to see it go, we fully support the way in which they are crafting the fourth season's dramatic conclusion," Grad told Variety.

Cuse also released a press statement, and he emphasized that they had initially planned the thriller drama to last only three seasons. Debuted in July 2014, "The Strain" is based on the best-selling trilogy of the same name by Del Toro and Hogan.

The third season of "The Strain" airs every Sunday night at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
