'The Originals' season 4 spoilers, plot news: Kol and Rebekah to have stronger brother-sister bond; series in danger of being canceled?

After ending with a huge tragedy last season, The CW's hit vampire spin-off drama "The Originals" will feature two characters become more bonded when the upcoming installment premieres.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly's Spoiler Room, showrunner Julie Plec hinted that Mikaelson siblings, Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) will have a stronger brother-sister bond this coming season. "Rebekah, like her siblings, has gotten caught up into the unified family takedown and spent five years in an alternate reality and is now back once again with that same choice she always has: What is my life supposed to be outside this crazy family," Plec explained. "Kol, interestingly enough, is asking himself those same questions. The two of them are going to bond in a way that we haven't gotten to see so much about what their future is in this family and how much of this crazy they're expected to live through."

As fans can recall, Kol is well-aware that the other family members including Freya (Riley Voelkel) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) had something to do with the death of his love interest Davina Claire (Danielle Campbell).This will lead him to question his relationship with his family, but he will later realize that Rebekah shares the same grievances, making the two closer than ever.

Since "The Originals" is a spinoff from "The Vampire Diaries," fans are growing concerned over the show's fate. After the confirmation that "The Vampire Diaries" will be airing its eighth and final season this Fall, "The Originals" also got a reduced number of episodes for season 4. This further sparked speculations that The CW is already preparing the drama for a possible conclusion as well. As of this writing, the network still has yet to release a statement on the program's renewal or cancellation.

Tune in for all-new episodes of "The Originals" season 4 which is expected to premiere next year on The CW.
