'The Originals' season 3 episode 17 spoilers: Deputy Matt Donovan meets the Mikaelsons in a special guest appearance

Fans will enjoy a unique "The Originals" episode where Elijah and Finn will meet Deputy Matt Donovan in their journey to Mystic Falls. Meanwhile, Klaus and Hayley will work together in an effort to figure out the true agenda of Lucien.
"The Originals" executive producer Michael Narducci recently sat down in an exclusive interview with TVLine to discuss the third season's upcoming episode 18. As for Matt's appearance, the showrunner said: "I really hesitate to call this episode a crossover. I would say it's an appearance — a special guest appearance — but I wouldn't call it a crossover and get fans believing we're doing some big epic thing. It's a small story, though we do get to see a pretty nice payoff to it."
For those wondering, Finn and Elijah from "The Originals" will go on a mission to Mystic Falls. While they spend their time there, the two will meet the deputy from "The Vampire Diaries." Furthermore, Narducci stressed that the two shows share a similar universe, with Mystic Falls as a valued place for the Mikaelsons. "It's where Esther created vampires for the first time, it's a hallowed ground. For reasons related to that, we're going to see some of our characters head to that hallowed ground. They've got business they need to take care of, and it just so happens that while they're there, they cross paths with someone whose job it is to protect that city," the showrunner said.
Should the viewers worry about Matt when he gets to meet the Mikaelsons? "Matt's just a human, but he's brave, and I've always admired that about him," as told by Narducci. "It's interesting to see Matt come face to face with this threat level that is so far greater than what he can reasonably deal with. Yet, without flinching, he stands his ground. That's something I've always admired."
The CW's hit series "The Originals" Season 3 airs every Friday at 9 p.m. EST. The extended sneak peek for the upcoming episode 18 can be viewed here.
