'The Night Shift' season 3 news: June 1 premiere confirmed, new recurring characters join the show

NBC finally announced an official premiere date for "The Night Shift," which is on June 1 on 10/9c. Considered as the No.1 new series during the summer of 2014, the show revolves around a team of doctors and nurses as they work at San Antonio Memorial's emergency room. The American medical drama series stars Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Brendan Fehr, Robert Bailey Jr., JR Lemon, Tanaya Beatty and Scott Wolf.

Joining the cast for a recurring role is Jennifer Beals, popularly known as Bette Porter on the Showtime drama series "The L Word." According to Deadline, Beals will make her first appearance in the season 3 premiere episode as Dr. Syd Jennings, who is a major in the army. She is working with Dr. Drew Alister (Brendan Fehr) on a six-month Afghanistan tour. 

Also checking in the San Antonio Memorial Hospital  is 90210 alum AnnaLynne McCord. The 28-year-old actress landed the recurring role of Jessica Sanders,a beautiful and determined pharmaceutical rep "who's always looking for a way to make a deal," according to Entertainment Weekly. The media outlet also hinted that Jessica will find a love interest in one of the doctors on the NBC drama. McCord will have her first appearance in the fifth episode of season 3, and confirmed to star in at least three episodes. Furthermore, the actress appearing in additional installments is highly possible.

Meanwhile, Lindsey Morgan is scheduled to guest star on the third episode of Season 3. TVLine has confirmed that Morgan will play the role of a high-strung bride named Kryztal. On her wedding day, she meets an unfortunate accident which unveils a "deeper and more complicated medical problem — one aggravated by the presence of her previously absentee father, who she believes ruined her wedding."

 "The Night Shift" will feature a total of 23 episodes, with the first one entitled "The Times They Are A-Changin."  The episode will be directed by Timothy Busfield, to be written by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah.
