Set to return in the Fall, Hulu's comedy-drama "The Mindy Project" will introduce both old and familiar faces for the fifth season.

The premiere episode is titled "Decisions 2016" which is a reference to the elections as well as the decision Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) had to make in the previous season. During last week's TCA summer press tour, executive producers Kaling and Matt Warburton shared new details on the upcoming season 5 and confirmed a new actress joining the cast: "SNL" star Nasim Pedrad.

Her yet-to-be-named character is a "pediatrician to the stars" who might treat Mindy's son. "Nasim is an actress I've been dying to write for forever," Kaling said. "She fits so perfectly in our world." Bill Hader will return as Mindy's former boyfriend while "The Office" star B.J. Novak is set to reprise his role as Latin professor Jaime for a brief but interesting arc. Other newcomers include Bryan Greenberg as a pediatric nurse and Rebecca Rittenhouse as a young doctor who becomes competitive with Mindy at work.

Further details about the plot are still under wraps, but Kaling mentioned an idea for the 16-episode season being worked out by the writers. In the possible episode titled "If I Were Born a White Man," Mindy wonders how her life will be changed when she turns into a different person.

A year after moving to Hulu from Fox, Kaling shared how liberating it felt to have creative freedom on her own show. "The single best improvement in my life," explained Kaling (via Deadline), "is working for people who are not having the forefront of our concern be the number of people who are watching."

Warburton agreed to her statement, pointing out how they do not feel pressured by weekly ratings anymore since they transferred to another network. "It's so short-sighted to look at week to week ratings... it's a relief to not be confronted with it all the time," he added.

"The Mindy Project" season 5 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 4 on Hulu.
