'The Mindy Project' season 5 cast news, spoilers: SNL's Nasim Pedrad guest stars; Bill Hader, B.J. Novak return

The upcoming fifth season of Hulu's "The Mindy Project" is set to feature some fresh faces along with familiar ones.
Nasim Pedrad, who is best known for her five seasons on "Saturday Night Live" and for her recurring guest role as LAPD officer Aly Nelson on Fox's "New Girl," is set to make her "Mindy Project" debut in the upcoming season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress will play a "pediatrician to the stars" who may or may not treat Leo, Mindy's son.
"Nasim is an actress I've been dying to write for forever," Kaling said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Friday, Aug. 5. "She fits so perfectly in our world."
Joining Pedrad in "The Mindy Project's" next installment are returning guest stars Bill Hader and B.J. Novak. Since the first season, Hader has played the role of Dr. Tom McDougall, a dentist who happens to be Mindy's ex-boyfriend. Novak, Kaling's long-time "The Office" co-star, plays Jamie, a Latin professor and another ex-boyfriend. According to Kaling and "The Mindy Project" executive producer Matt Warburton, Novak will reprise his role as Jamie for a "juicy little arc" in the fifth season
It was previously announced that "How to Make It in America" alum Bryan Greenberg will play the role of a pediatric nurse will help in treating Leo in the upcoming installment. In addition, "Blood & Oil" grad Rebecca Rittenhouse will play a young doctor who is described as "put-together" and "slightly evil."
Meanwhile, "The Mindy Project" season five could feature an interesting storyline that will have a white man playing the role of Mindy.
"We're pitching an episode called, 'If I Was Born a White Man,'" Kaling told the press at the TCA press tour on Friday (via TVLine). "I love the idea that something happens to Mindy that is really sexist, and then she wakes up the next morning as a white man."
According to the series star and executive producer, the episode, should it be given the green light, will have a white man "live [Mindy's] life, still with my [voiceover]. It seems really interesting and fun and kind of a weird wish-fulfillment to see how differently she would be treated."
The fifth season of "The Mindy Project" debuts on Tuesday, Oct. 4, on Hulu.
