Amazon's dystopian alternative history series "The Man in the High Castle" returns to the small screen next month, and a new trailer for the second season has been released.

Everyone is caught between two worlds, and the new teaser for season 2 previews how the future will look as the story moves forward. "We're on the same side," a man declares at some point in the clip. "The side that stands against the Nazis, against the Japanese, that stands for freedom." Since the West Coast is under the control of the Japanese and the East Coast is controlled by Germans, the only chance to find freedom lies in the so-called "neutral zone" known as the Rocky Mountains. This area is led by a mysterious character dubbed as "the Man in the High Castle," and the latest promo trailer gives fans a glimpse at his castle.

The first season centered on Juliana (Alexa Davalos) as she was getting caught up in the American resistance after having a film reel showing an alternate timeline in which the Allied powers won World War II. Filled with twists and turns, the ten-episode run wrapped up with a dramatic season finale that featured a shocking revelation. The very last scene showed Tagomi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) opening his eyes and realizing that he is in an alternate version of the 1960s where the Allies won the war.

Season 2 kicks off with Juliana dealing with the consequences of her decision to betray the Resistance. Suspected Nazi agent Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank) finds himself in the Nazi capital of Berlin as he comes face to face with his father who abandoned him when he was young. Frank Frink (Rupert Evans) becomes more involved in the resistance after seeing images of his own execution in the mysterious film, while Chief Inspector Kido (Joel De La Fuente) grows more curious about the Man in the High Castle and how Juliana is connected to everything.

"The Man in the High Castle" season 2 premieres Friday, Dec. 16 on Amazon Prime.
