The CW will soon part ways with the hit vampire series "The Vampire Diaries," but the network will be producing a TV remake of the 1987 film, "The Lost Boys."

For the uninitiated, "The Lost Boys" is a horror-comedy film directed by Joel Schumacher about the adventures of teenage brothers Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) who move to a small town in northern California. Both boys immediately make friends with the local teens. But the older brother, Michael, has a different agenda in mind. He wants to woo Star (Jami Gertz), an unwilling servant of the leader of a gang of vampires. When Michael and Star get themselves in trouble, Sam and his new friends face the daunting task of saving the two from the immortal creatures.

According to Variety, the remake series will be an anthology about immortality. The news outlet reports that the remake will tell a story that spans 70 years, showing how the immortal vampires deal with the ever changing world around them. The show will not be a conventional vampire show.

Each decade will be equivalent to one season. The pilot season will be set in San Francisco during the year 1967. In each season, viewers will see new human characters, settings, storylines and antagonists. The youthful and immortal main characters of "The Lost Boys" will be the only constant variable in the show.

"Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas spearheaded the development of the remake. Thomas will work as the show's writer and executive producer. He will be joined by Danielle Stokdyk, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley. Warner Bros. Television, Spondoolie Productions and Gulfstream Television will be producing the show.

Although "The Lost Boys" remake has been confirmed by CW, the network has yet to release further details about the new vampire show's premiere.
