'The Last Ship' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Chandler gets vital information, Kara searches for answers in White House, series gets early renewal from TNT

With the finale only a month away, new revelations will keep viewers on the edge of their seats in the upcoming episode of "The Last Ship" season 3.

To recap, this week's episode saw the discovery of an anti-cure gas. The real motive behind Peng's grand plan was finally unveiled, and the "green mist" turned out to be a huge threat to the whole humanity. Also, President Oliver officially took the oath of office during the episode.

According to Carter Matt, the upcoming episode titled "Eutopia" will see Chandler discover vital information which might give answers to the problems plaguing him all throughout the season. Meanwhile, Kara might see important information as she searches for answers in the White House. The brief and official synopsis for episode 9 reads:

"Chandler gets a lead that could help answer threatening questions. Kara does some digging in the White House."

On another note, the show recently earned an early season 4 renewal from TNT. With four episodes to go before season 3 ends, the network decided to greenlight another run which is scheduled to premiere in Summer 2017. The premium cabler announced the news during last week's Television Critics Association summer press tour, along with the confirmation that the series will have 13 episodes.

In an interview with TV Line, lead actor and former Nathan James captain and Tom Chandler's portrayer Eric Dane mentioned that the finale for this year will lay the groundwork for more seasons in the future. "We know where Chandler is going to be at the beginning of Season 4," he said, adding: "[W]e have an idea what the first five seasons look like."

To date, the post-apocalyptic program clocks in an average of 2.2 million total viewers along with a 0.5 demo rating. A total of 7.6 million viewers watch the show every week across various viewing platforms.

Tune in to "The Last Ship" season 3 episode 9 "Eutopia" which airs on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 9 p.m. EST on TNT.
