'The Last Ship' season 3 spoilers news: Will the new vaccine cause more trouble? EP drops hints on the new season's storyline

Hit TNT post-apocalyptic drama "The Last Ship" wrapped up its sophomore run last year leaving viewers with a glimmer of hope after Rachel Scott found a cure for the virus which will supposedly wipe out all humanity. She also discovered a way to administer the vaccine easily to each individual but despite the virus being controlled, there are some complications that will happen.
The third season will see the implications brought about by the new vaccine along with some characters taking on new responsibilities. New faces are also expected to be on board once the show returns tonight.
According to the synopsis for season 3, the story picks up on the events after the season 2 finale where Rachel was shot and her life hangs in the balance. The Nathan James crew begins giving more attention to Asia as President Michener (Mark Moses) heard rumors of the Chinese leader hoarding the "Scott Cure" and not giving it to the other people in the area. Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) is sent by Michener to attend a global summit and probe on the said allegation. Furthermore, he needs to investigate on a suspected mutation which caused another new outbreak in Japan.
Executive Producer Hank Steinberg recently caught up with Buddy TV where he explained how the new season will take shape. "In Season 3, the storyline is split between the action in Asia and the Presidency in the new White House in St. Louis ... The drama is between geo-political issues of how to hold the country together and the question of how many resources should we give to saving the rest of the world when America is stretched very thin and trying to repair itself," said Steinberg. The EP stressed that no one is safe and it's difficult to predict who will stay or go. "It's a dangerous world out there. The way we keep the audience on their toes, we have to lose people along the way to feel like every time they go out there, you don't know what could happen," he added.
