'The Last Ship' news 2016: What to expect from season 3 opening this year
It has been recently confirmed that a season 3 for "The Last Ship" is in the works, and the show is scheduled to return mid-2016.

Despite the slight tumble in ratings "The Last Ship" season 2 experienced during its time, fans of the series expect more from its upcoming third season. Showrunners Steve Kane and Hank Steinberg recently sat down in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and discussed some hints for the upcoming season. Kane mentioned that the third season's central theme will be moving forward, towards "rebuilding America and putting the world back in order."
Season 2 concluded with Memphis having an airdrop of cure, alongside a huge gathering in St. Louis. When asked about "how cured" the U.S. will be this upcoming season, Kane explained that everything is just in a starting point. He points out that it all depends on the people if they can help spread the cure as quickly as possible.
"It's a huge country [that's] 3,000 miles long, difficult to get from place to place and so difficult to communicate. The season finale is the first real victory after having a number of losses. It's really the beginning of something. When we come back in season three, we'll be coming back to very much a work in progress with lots of problems and, of course, new enemies and new issues, new complications and all those things," coproducer Steinberg added.
Following the show's finale last year, Kane foresees season 3 story to pick-up where it left off. He stressed how the 'big world' is an opportunity for them to develop the plotline even better. Steinberg also discussed a "wider world" for the next season, "which is going to be an exciting new palette and widen the scope of the show even more."
Adding to the cast as regulars for season 3 are Bridget Regan from "Jane the Virgin" and former "Law and Order" actress Elisabeth Rohm, as reported by Latin Post.
