'The Last of Us 2' release date news 2016: Development ongoing as Naughty Dog shifts away from 'Uncharted 4'

Naughty Dog has not yet revealed the details for the upcoming sequel of "The Last of Us." It has long been rumored that "The Last of Us 2" will be released in the coming years, although Naughty Dog has been pretty busy in releasing additional content packs for "Uncharted 4." Now that the game studio is officially done with this huge game title, the development of "The Last of Us 2" can now be started.
PSU mentioned a recent interview with "The Last of Us" voice actor, Nolan North, where he stated that even though the development of the sequel has not yet officially begun, there have already been talks about the possible contents of the game. This gave additional hope to the fans that "The Last of Us 2" is definitely happening, although the fans cannot expect it to come sooner.
According to Mobi Picker, Naughty Dog is not yet ready to release "The Last of Us 2" anytime soon. The fans cannot even expect the sequel to be done by 2018. The issue that is causing the delay in the development of "The Last of Us 2" is the previous DLC release for their other hit game title, "Uncharted 4." The past few months have been very busy for the game developer company, noting that the same teams working on the DLC packs for "Uncharted 4" have also begun brainstorming for new contents in "The Last of Us" sequel.
Meanwhile, Neurogadget noted that even though Naughty Dog can finally focus on "The Last of Us 2" even after finishing "Uncharted 4," the sequel can only be expected to arrive sometime in 2021. It may be challenging for the fans to remain patient while waiting for "The Last of Us 2," although the extended period of waiting can be used by Naughty Dog to develop a high-quality game project. The first game was released back in 2013, thus making the fans think that a sequel is already overdue.
