With "Mockingjay, Part 1" predicted to score the biggest box-office opening weekend of the year, there appears to be no stopping Katniss Everdeen and the Hunger Games film franchise in their march to glory.

Lionsgate, the studio behind the film, has predicted that the film will bring in around $130 million to $150 million in its opening weekend. Industry analysts note that this figure is even a conservative estimate and that the film could actually bring in over $170 million.

So far, the first two films in the Hunger Games franchise have earned around $1.6 billion. The first film titled "The Hunger Games" earned a whopping $152.5 million in its first weekend while "Catching Fire" grossed $158 million.

This has led analysts to estimate that the third film in the series will also cross 150 million in its opening weekend. It could even do better as it is the only film that is opening as a wide release in 4,151 locations. Moreover, the film will have no blockbuster competition in theaters until "Exodus: Gods and Kings" opens on Dec. 12.

Forbes notes that the continued success of the series could mean that "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1and Part 2" together could earn above $2 billion. If it crosses the $2 billion mark, Lionsgate would get a huge return on the $250-million dollar investment it made when it decided to produce the last two films simultaneously.

Analysts are also pointing out that "The Hunger Games" film franchise can now be ranked alongside other hugely successful franchises such as "The Lord of the Rings" and "Batman."

The franchise has been reaping huge returns even if the film series has not relied on 3D to attract more viewers. "Mockingjay, Part 1" is also not for Imax viewing.

Analysts predict that given the lack of competition the film could end up taking the top spot for three straight weeks.
