'The Fosters' season 4B air date, news, updates: Shi Ne Nielson lands recurring role, series moves to new timeslot

The family drama continues when Freeform's "The Fosters" returns on January, and a new female character has been tapped to join the back half of season 4.
According to Deadline, "Chasing Life " alumna Shi Ne Nielson will play the role of Kate O'Brien, a very intelligent and capable public defender. Described as a caring and professional individual, she is one of Stef's (Teri Polo) good friends. She is also regarded as one of the best attorneys in the department. Nielson has just wrapped up filming for Nancy Meyers' upcoming movie "Home Again" with Reese Witherspoon.She recently played a recurring role on "Murder in the First" and guest-starred on "Rosewood" and "NCIS".
Along with the latest cast addition, the series will also have a new timeslot when it returns next year. From its Mondays-at-8 timeslot, it will be moved to Tuesdays-at-8 following the final season of Freeform's "Switched at Birth." The announcement was made through the show's official Facebook page where a poster was featured with the caption that reads: "The Fosters is moving to Tuesdays! Don't miss the winter premiere Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 8/7c followed by Switched at Birth on Freeform!"
Series co-creator and executive producer Peter Paige previously spoke to Cartermatt, and he shared interesting details on what lies ahead for the Foster-Adams family. According to him, the series will pick up exactly where the story ended. This means that viewers will finally know what happens to Jesus (Noah Centineo) after Nick (Louis Hunter) punched him in the face. Brandon (David Lambert) must face the repercussions of his wrong decisions, while Callie (Maia Mitchell) might be in danger when it was revealed that she was inside the car of a suspected killer.
The back half of "The Fosters" season 4 premieres Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
