'The Flash' season 3 release date, spoilers news: Grant Gustin reveals how Flashpoint story arc will affect Barry

Grant Gustin, who plays the titular role in The CW's "The Flash," revealed that Barry Allen will be in denial when the new season opens.
It has been previously reported that the upcoming season 3 of "The Flash" will go into the Flashpoint story arc. For the uninitiated, Flashpoint in the comic book series finds The Flash going back into time to save his mother from death, consequently altering major events in his own timeline; he becomes obsolete, non-existent even.
Gustin shared with E! News how Allen, who is known for taking life changes pretty hard, will take it when he realizes he is in a different timeline.
"When we pick up Flashpoint he's been in this new timeline for a few months and he's in a complete state of bliss that both of his parents are alive," Gustin said of Allen.
He went on to say that Allen will not realize initially that the Kid Flash who exists in the timeline he finds himself in is Wally (played by Keiynan Lonsdale). He will be content with just being around his family for the time being.
"So he's not really coping at all — he's in denial."
As to what will transpire once Allen puts it together will be something left for viewers to find out when "The Flash" season 3 airs. Those who are familiar with the Flashpoint arc from the comics will not really have a great advantage over the TV series fans, as the show will not be wholly following the source material.
Todd Helbing, the executive producer for the show, explained to TVLine that, while the series will honor the comic book version, they will also be putting their own mark on the story, one which will be unique only to the TV series version.
He said, "We always do this, we always sort of take what was done and then put our own spin on it."
Gustin also pointed out that he did not know where "The Flash" season 3 was going to go at first, saying he realized they would not be able to stick to the original version. It was only when he got hold of the script that he knew how it would differ.
The actor said, "It's 'Flashpoint,' but it's our version of 'Flashpoint' for sure."
"The Flash" will return with season 3 on Oct. 4 on The CW.
