'The Flash' season 3 news and updates: Premiere date set for Oct. 4, Tom Cavanagh speaks on why Grant Gustin should have been the lead in 'The Flash' film

"The Flash" wrapped up last month with an action-packed and intense finale, and viewers need not wait much longer as season 3 will return this coming October. Along with the Scarlet Speedster's comeback, fans will also see the "Flashpoint" story arc which is the aftermath of Barry's (Grant Gustin) effort to travel through time.
In an effort to save his mother, Barry manages to go back in time, but what he did will have greater consequences. The "Flashpoint" arc will see Barry waking up in Central City, confused by the changes in the world he lives in. He does not have his powers anymore since there was no wrongful incarceration of his father to lead him in the path of forensic science. Citizen Cold is the superhero protecting the city instead of him, and Barry must find a way to undo his actions to bring everything back to normal.
Gustin's performance as the titular role has been lauded by critics and viewers since the show premiered, and Tom Cavanagh couldn't agree more. In an interview with Puck Soup, he praised Gustin's performance, stressing that the young actor should have been the lead for "The Flash" movie instead of Ezra Miller. "If Zack Snyder were to read him for ['The Flash'], he would be shocked," Cavanagh explained. "It's crazy for a big-time Hollywood director to say 'that's not the universe.' It's a huge misstep on his part. If you're a director, and you're worth your oats, then you should be able to, given an actor with talent, mold him into what you want, and Grant could do that."
Warner Bros. previously mentioned that they wanted to keep the television and film universes apart to allow "creative freedom on both platforms," as noted by reports.
